Mrs. Marianne Alius Blades age 98, died in Provo, Utah on Friday August 3, 2018.

Marianne was born on March 17, 1920 in Chemnitz, Sachsen, Germany. This righteous lady, mother, spouse, grandmother/Oma and friend will be greatly missed by the many people she has left behind. Marianne It was only then that she learned English and graduated from high school with honors. Shortly before World War II, Marianne went back to Germany to visit family for a year and returned just before the war broke out. Life was tough during the war as her father was interned in New Brunswick, Canada for being German. He was interned for five years. Marianne worked to earn income to support her mother and brother during those years.

In 1944 she met her future husband, C. Ernest Blades, at the church they both attended. They were married in Montreal, Canada and later sealed in the Cardston, Alberta Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1953 they moved to New Jersey where they lived for 26 years before moving to Macungie, PA in 1979. They would live there for 34 years. In 2013, they spent a year with their son Carl and his wife Gayla (Georgia) before leaving once again for Utah. During the past 3 years Marianne lived in the memory care unit at Jamestown Assisted Living in Provo, Utah. She missed her home and the friends she made in Macungie, PA. Due to dementia and other ailments, she could not return to her home.

Marianne devoted her life to the service of others. She took care of the elderly, the needy, single mothers, those who had lost jobs, etc. If anyone needed a helping hand, they knew where to go for it. She is known for putting on a feast, complete with her best china, goblets and real silver ware, for anyone who was invited to share a meal. Her desserts were decadent and there was always more than one to choose from. Many were made with recipes from her beloved home-land, Germany. Marianne was also an expert seamstress and made many of the dresses she wore. She rarely wore pants of any kind. She was a gifted artist in the art of Caligraphy and Tole Painting. She also did gold leafing. For a time, she and her husband took up square dancing. She made her frilly dresses for that as well. She lived simply but elegantly. She never thought of herself.

Her pride and joy were her family. If she knew her boys were coming home for a visit, she began baking and filling the chest freezer with enough goodies to last a month. Her cup was full with her three sons but when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came a long, her cup runneth over!

All of us will miss her love, her bright smile, her cooking and so much more now that they she passed on to the Spirit world. She is free of her bodily limitations that slowed her down for the past five years. Being reunited with her parents, brother and husband must have been the sweetest experience of all. May she never forget us who are still left here in mortality hoping we will get to be with her again.

Marianne leaves behind her three sons and spouses, Les and Cynthia (UT), Carl and Gayla (GA) and Larry (CA) as well as 7 grandchildren and 11 great-granchildren. We love you, Oma! Volch gut!

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Daniel LDS Chapel 2285 S Daniels Rd. Heber, Utah. Interment to follow in the Heber City Cemetery.
